Come to think of it, most of the time, we are either living in the past in our head or we are trying to live in the future. If you observe carefully, you will notice that there are certain people who are generally slow, sad and melancholic, their body language is lethargic and most of the time they are stuck in past. Similarly, there is another set of people who are hyper, anxious, they eat fast and patience is not their virtue. These people are very eager to fast forward in future, they are generally restless.
Mindfulness helps all of us in living in the present moment and enjoying the pace. Imagine eating peacefully without any electronic gadgets around you, relish the taste of the fruit, participating in any conversation, listen with attention, give respect to the person in front of you. Enjoy the bloom of flowers admire Mother Nature, relish the smell of flowers. Mindfulness is ongoing practice of relishing and touching life deeply in small moments of our daily life.
With regular practice of mindfulness along with Yoga and meditation, we bring our body and mind in sync and harmony during regular course of life and even doing small chores like preparing food, driving the car or even taking our morning shower.
Nothing much changes initially; we do the same things as we lead our lives, like: walking, sleeping, eating, working, interacting etc. The only difference, while practicing mindfulness ,is the awareness that we are actually doing it, we are the doer. Gradually, you will feel the difference in approach and you will become more joyful, relaxed and steady. We will be able to encourage and welcome peace and joy within and around us, it will be a gift for all around us. We will be able to liberate ourselves from anxieties, fear, misunderstandings and sufferings.
Taking it forward, over a period of time, we can train ourselves to be aware of sufferings caused dueto destruction. Especially these days during the pandemic, we need to be compassionate and learn ways to protect lives of people, animals, mother earth and minerals etc. We need to understand the meaning of Karuna (compassion)for the planet and all living beings. We should be aware of oppression, social injustice and stealing. We should practice generosity by giving time, energy and resources with those who are in real need. We should be conscious about protecting safety and integrity of individuals, weak and needy. With mindfulness, we should preserve our happiness and radiate peace. We should practice restraint in unmindful speech and inability to listen to others. Knowing that words can create happiness or suffering, we must learn to speak truthfully, with inspiring words and spread joy and hope.
We better take charge of our health, both physical and mental, for self, family and friends and society at large. We should practice to consume food and other products which are not causing harm to our health and nature generally. We should avoid negative news, negative people and unhealthy food .We need to understand that a proper diet is crucial for self-transformation and society.
